10. "Calling All the Monsters" by China Anne McClain
This is probably the “cutesiest” song in our countdown, but it still deserves to be here. China Anne McClain (of Disney Channel fame) delivers a great vocal, fun video, and one of the few kid-friendly songs in our Top Ten. However, just because it’s kid-friendly doesn't mean it can't get the older partygoers dancing as well. “Calling All the Monsters” is catchy and fits the Halloween theme perfectly. So call all your friends and call all the monsters, because there’s a party going down.
9. "Time Warp" from The Rocky Horror Picture Show
8. "Monster" by Kanye West featuring Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Bon Iver, & Nicki Minaj
The video for this Kanye West song was so monsterous (see what we did there) that it was banned within 24 hours of its premiere and came under fire from multiple organizations and groups. But this is Kanye we’re talking about – The song is literally called “Monster” on an album titled My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. What were you expecting? The song and video give us a glimpse into just how dark and twisted life can be and Halloween is the perfect time to celebrate our darker instincts. Plus, it leads perfectly into our #7 pick, another monsterous song.
7. "Monster" by Lady Gaga
Let’s face it, Lady Gaga pretty much has to be on this list. After all, her fans are literally referred to as “Little Monsters” and she has an album title The Fame Monster, so it is only appropriate that #7 on our list belongs to Lady Gaga’s “Monster .” This track from The Fame Monster brings Gaga face to face with a man who she is both attracted to and scared of, lamenting in the opening lines that “he ate my heart” and that the man is a monster. Here’s to all the monsters, little and otherwise.
6. "Cell Block Tango" from Chicago
While "Cell Block Tango " may seem like a strange choice for our Top Ten Halloween Party Songs, it actually fits perfectly. After all, what’s scarier than a bunch of angry, homicidal women discussing how they took revenge on the boyfriends, husbands, and lovers who so wrongfully scorned them as if they’re sharing a recipe for a pumpkin pie? Nothing frightens up a good party like hot women with dark secrets. Remember, if you’re attending a Halloween party as a player, Hell hath no fury like that of a woman scorned.
5. "Dressin' Up" by Katy Perry
This song is for all those sexy nurses, librarians, cats, and witches that haunt our dreams year round (in only the hottest of ways, of course). This bonus track on Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection shows off the sultry & sexy side of Halloween and reminds us that Katy Perry’s obsession with cupcakes and lollipops isn't all innocent. “Dressin’ Up ” is about just that, dressing up (or down, in some cases) for a special night. Suit up, people, it’s going to get downright sexy out there this Halloween.
4. "Monster Mash" by Bobby “Boris” Pickett
This song has been covered so many times over the years it better be making some serious big bucks in royalties. "Monster Mash" was originally released in 1962 and has since been covered by the likes of The Beach Boys, Allstar Weekend, and The Misfits. The song is a fun catchy tune that everyone at your party will know and love. Much like #2 on our list, this song is considered a Halloween classic that will probably be playing at every party from Tennessee to Transylvania.
3. "Disturbia" by Rihanna
While Rihanna has produced happy, fun-loving hits, like “Only Girl in the World ” and “Umbrella ,” this Barbadian native also has a string of darker songs, like “Love the Way You Lie ” and “Unfaithful .” “Disturbia ,” penned by then-boyfriend Chris Brown, helped reveal Rihanna’s dark and sexy side with a video that has garnered over 60 million views on YouTube. If the opening “bum bum be dum bum bum be dum dum” doesn’t get you dancing, you might actually be a zombie.
2. "Ghostbusters" by Ray Parker Jr.
1. "Thriller" by Michael Jackson
Hands down the best Halloween-themed music video of all time, Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” is most definitely our #1 pick. The song has sold over 7 million copies to date and sparked Michael’s most iconic video, even earning it a spot as the first music video added to the National Film Registry. This song is a must have for any Halloween party. For a twist on the classic, try Glee’s take, mashing up “Thriller” with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Heads Will Roll,” a mashup that makes the hit even more eerie and epic.
