This month Miley Cyrus relaunched her website. On her new and improved site, you can find new pictures of Miley (with her new hair), a chance to design Miley merchandise, and lots of other fangirling necessities. To commemorate the launch, Miley also uploaded a new video of her singing a cover of James Shelton’s “Lilac Wine.” The video was shot several months ago (her hair is neither short, nor blonde), but Miley decided to wait until the launch of the website to reveal it to her fans. And the wait was totally worth it. |
The song is also a part of what Miley is calling the “Backyard Sessions”: Basically, Miley and a couple of musically gifted instrumentalists getting together in a backyard and playing music (very hipster and rock and roll at the same time). This means that the song keeps most of its original sound. There’s no dubbing or electronic adjustments, just instruments (2 guitars, a piano, a bass, and drums) and Miley’s voice blending together in a simple melody that is both innocent and grown up, much like Miley herself (well, at least the grown up part).
All this guessing should come to an end soon, though. Miley revealed last week at the VMAs that she will have a brand new single out by the end of the year (initiate freak out). More than likely, her new single will not be similar to the mood of “Lilac Wine”; however, we believe that, due to the Backyard Sessions, Miley will release more covers like “Lilac Wine” through her website. We’ll just be here listening to “Lilac Wine” on repeat until she does. | |
