“Downtown” is a funky, hip single perfect for the fun-loving trio. It starts off with an instrumental that will make you feel like you are just another party-goer in a country bar in Nashville. The verses explore the beauty and spirit of Saturday nights. Hillary Scott keeps it sassy, reminding her man how much she loves going out every weekend. The only female member in the trio takes the lead throughout the song, not something the group usually does with their singles, but we don’t mind at all. Her smooth vocals and attitude keep the song entertaining and make the areas where the boys come in even more fun. |
The first time we really get to hear the boys is in the chorus. The chorus reminisces about the better times, the times we went downtown (we’re starting to see a theme here). The male members of the trio, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood, blend so well with Hillary that it almost feels like a live performance. The twang of the instruments mixes with their hopes of going downtown in a way that reminds us of a great jukebox hit.
