It’s been nearly two years since Kesha last released an official single, and that’s just simply too long for die-hard glitter lovers such as ourselves. Kesha released the self-directed music video for “Dirty Love” from her Warrior album on December 31, 2013 as a gift for the fans, and then, three days later, she checked herself into a rehab program to deal with an eating disorder that she revealed had been plaguing her for a while. Fans and celebrities alike applauded her courage to lay out her problems in an honest and uncensored way and for her willingness to check herself into a program in order to get help. On March 6, 2013, Kesha tweeted her first post-rehab tweet and then, the next day, she took a celebratory beach dip that reminded us of how much we love Kesha’s free spirit and take-no-shit attitude.

However, since her return, we have all been plagued with one question: When are we going to get new music? It has been a long time coming and we are ready to be reminded of the girl who can both write party bangers, like “We R Who We R,” and heartfelt tragedies, like “Blind.” Seriously, Kesha’s range as a songwriter is amazing. She’s best known for her club hits about drinking, stripping, and hot cars – and there’s no shame in that. “Tik Tok” is one of the most-played songs of the 2000s. We need a true club, no shame, blackout hit to remind us of why we suffer hangovers in the first place. We also need songs like Cannibal’s “The Harold Song” that make us question our crappy relationships and standards to look at who we really are and what we really want from our boyfriend or girlfriend. |
Unfortunately, Kesha is currently locked in a legal battle with her former producer, Dr. Luke, that makes releasing new music difficult, if not impossible, until the lawsuit comes to a close. But that’s not keeping Kesha from engaging fans and letting the world know that she is back and ready to make a splash. It started when she mysteriously dropped the $ from her name – Ke$ha to Kesha. Since then, she’s performed several concerts, made appearances, acted as a judge on ABC’s Rising Star, and blown up Instagram with some wonderfully awesome pictures and ensembles. For real, Kesha, can we raid your closet? Because you have been killing the fashion game lately. She’s even collaborated on a jewelry collection with Charles Albert, called Kesha Rose – and we want EVERYTHING on the site.

On January 19, 2015, Kesha tweeted that she would release music “as soon as I fucking can.” So, for now, we have to wait, albeit impatiently, for whenever “soon” may arrive. While we wait, we’ll be sitting here, blasting lesser-known Kesha gems, like her Deconstructed EP, as well as her biggest hits, praying for the day when glitter puke rises again, stronger than ever, with a charismatic, tough, but lovable Kesha as its leader. You got this, girl, and we got you. |
