This Tuesday Justin Bieber will release his much anticipated album, Believe, followed by the 2-night event Justin Bieber: All Around the World airing on Wednesday and Thursday at 8 on NBC. Even though Justin Bieber has released a total of five CDs since his start in 2009 (My World, My World 2.0, My Worlds Acoustic, Never Say Never: The Remixes, and Under the Mistletoe), Believe is only his third full-length album, following My World 2.0 and the holiday-themed Under the Mistletoe. | With all of these EPs and LPs combined, Justin has a total of over 40 officially released songs in his name. Add to that the songs that he is a featured artist on, and Justin has over 50 official songs with his name on them (and that's not including songs that just happen to be floating around on YouTube). That’s a lot of Bieber Fever. With all of these songs, it may seem like an impossibility to pick a favorite. Have no fear! Music Mania is here! With our Bieber-filled iPods on repeat and your help on Twitter, we’ve formed a list of the Top Ten Justin Bieber Songs. |
10. "Down to Earth"
It may seem strange that the first song on our list is a song that was not released as a single, but this song deserves to be here. It showcases Justin’s ability to connect his music to his real life (the song was inspired by the divorce of his parents – both of whom he remains close to). The song appeared on his first disc release, My World, and adds a completely different tone to the other love-pop songs on the album, giving the listener a chance to know that this kid can do more than just sing about parties and dancing. He has a heart, and he wears it on his sleeve. |
9. "Never Say Never" featuring Jaden Smith
This single was originally released to promote Jaden Smith’s Karate Kid; however, the single eventually became Justin’s personal anthem, leading him to re-release the single for his own album, Never Say Never: The Remixes. The song provided Justin with new friends (he is BFFs with the whole Smith clan) and it also provided the title for Justin’s concert documentary Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, which became the highest grossing non-animated G-rated film of all time (knocking out the previous title holder, Hannah Montana: The Movie). The song itself is not necessarily Justin’s best, but the message behind it and the “Never Say Never” era that it sparked in Justin’s career certainly earns the song a spot in the Top Ten. |
8. "That Should Be Me" featuring Rascal Flatts
While our personal favorite version of this song is the original on My World 2.0, this version, appearing on Never Say Never: The Remixes, introduced Justin to country radio and earned him and Rascal Flatts a CMT Award in 2011 for Collaborative Video of the Year. The acoustic version of the song on My Worlds Acoustic is also worth a listen. Whichever version you listen to, "That Should Be Me" is simply heartbreaking, as Justin laments over a lost lover. It’s okay, Justin, there are plenty of girls willing to heal your broken heart. |
7. "Somebody to Love" featuring Usher
“Somebody to Love” was a first for the Biebs – the first time he released a remixed version of a song (on My World 2.0, Justin sings the song solo). And it paid off. The song was originally meant for Usher, but, like a good mentor, he was willing to share it with his protégé (however, there is an alternate version on Usher’s Versus album that features JB). The song was radio gold and the video opened up the path for Justin to do a dance music video, making Justin as a dancing performer more believable and acceptable. The song also made every girl believe that she could be Justin’s somebody. |
6. "Next 2 You" Chris Brown featuring Justin Bieber
While Justin has been featured on several other tracks, "Next 2 You" not only does a better job of showcasing Justin’s vocal ability, it also made Justin more acceptable in the hip-hop and R&B world, making it the only song on our list where Justin is the featured artist. Justin has made it no secret that he is great friends with Chris Brown, so this collaboration makes perfect sense (he also does a feature on Chris’ fourth mixtape, Boy in Detention, on the song “Ladies Love Me”). The song is simply beautiful (we’re swooning just thinking about Justin and Chris singing this to us) and one of the best from Chris’ F.A.M.E. album and is one of Justin’s best collaborations so far. |
5. "One Time"
The song that started it all. “One Time” was Justin’s first single and, even though it’s been three years since its release, it totally deserves to be on our list. The song is a fun and easy sing-along with the accompanying video, shot at mentor Usher’s house, fitting the fun, young party vibe with ease. When Justin was first starting, he would visit different radio stations and play the song acoustically, showcasing his vocal and musical ability (he can play guitar, piano, drums, and trumpet). It is the first track on My World, My Worlds Acoustic, and his first single. Not a bad way to start out. |
4. "Boyfriend"
The first single from Justin’s upcoming album Believe, “Boyfriend” is a great sign of things to come for Justin. It showcases a more mature Justin both lyrically and musically and is a great fit for radio play. The video broke the VEVO record for most views in the first 24 hours with 8 million views the first day it premiered. On the track, Justin blends a good mix of vocal runs and breathy rapping (a rap song for Justin was unavoidable. If you haven’t heard his rap to Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “Otis,” you need to check it out. The Biebs has skills). On June 12, Boyfriend (Remixes) was released with 8 remixes. The “Boyfriend (Dada Life Remix)” was also released. |
3. "Favorite Girl"
The only non-single to make it into our top 5, “Favorite Girl” is one of our personal favorites here at Music Mania. It was the final promotional single from his My World extended play, contributing to Justin’s being the first solo artist to have 4 songs in the Billboard Hot 100 Top 40 before releasing a debut album. Much like “One Time,” Justin would go around to different venues and radio stations when he was just starting and play this song acoustically. Even during his My World Tour, Justin would perform the song acoustically while flying above the crowd in a heart. It’s a major swoon song, leading every girl who has heard it to wish that she could be Justin’s favorite girl. |
2. "Mistletoe"
Justin’s Under the Mistletoe album broke records, becoming the first Christmas album by a male artist to reach #1 on the Billboard 200, also making Bieber the first solo artist to have three #1 albums before turning 18. The first of many singles from the album, “Mistletoe” is a fun and romantic melody that gave us a sneak peek of what was to come for Justin as he progressed vocally and in age. It’s a song that makes you want to grab a cup of cocoa, put on your Justin Bieber snuggie, and snuggle up with your Justin Bieber doll (not that we have a Justin Bieber snuggie and doll or anything). |
1. "Baby" featuring Ludacris
Sure, Justin was famous before the release of “Baby,” but this song launched his career to a whole new level. It has sold over 5 million copies worldwide and the video holds the record for most views on YouTube and VEVO, with a current total of over 700 million views. The song debuted at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100, Justin’s highest debut until “Boyfriend” debuted at #2 this month. It was the first song Justin performed on Saturday Night Live and his first Grammy performance. The song was the first single from Justin’s first full-length album, My World 2.0, and definitely fueled the success of the album and Justin’s career. |
