So besides the kissing, what ties these two opposite events together? Music. Everyone has a song they associate with that first bloom of youth or the fading glow of a doomed love. Whether you’re celebrating your first kiss, your last kiss, or regretting the kiss that never happened, our Top Ten Songs About Kissing has you covered.
10. "A Moment Like This" by Kelly Clarkson
We had a tough time deciding whether this song should make it onto our list since the word “kiss” isn’t in the title, but, since we’re making the list, we can do what we want (take that!). Kelly Clarkson’s first ever single after American Idol (which was also covered by The X Factor winner Leona Lewis), "A Moment Like This" revels in the beauty of special moments, especially special kissing moments, and just how rare they can be. Remember, every kiss has the potential to be THE kiss, so don’t simply pass over a moment like this (no pressure).
9. "Kiss the Girl" from The Little Mermaid
8. "Kiss a Girl" by Keith Urban
This upbeat country track by an Australian hunk (no, not Hugh Jackman). Keith Urban details that longing for that sweet, amazing moment of lips meeting lips. Keith overcomes the nerves and jitters of pursuing the girl of his dreams by simply admitting that he doesn’t want to be lonely; he wants to "Kiss a Girl" (and it doesn't hurt if that girl's Nicole Kidman). He also notes that one kiss can easily lead to another and maybe something more: “Cause, baby, tonight, it could turn into the rest of our lives.”
7. "This Kiss" by Faith Hill
While the kiss Faith Hill is singing about here isn’t necessarily the first or last, it’s still a kiss worth noting (obviously, since she wrote a song about it, her biggest crossover hit). Equally perfect for country fairs and kissing scenes in movies, this song, like #8 on our list, is one of the few country tunes about kissing that is actually upbeat. Plus, it showcases a young, flirty Faith Hill that was soon to blossom into the country queen that she is today.
6. "Should've Kissed You" by Chris Brown
Chris Brown’s not afraid to admit when he’s wrong (which, judging by the songs on his albums and all the hate he gets on Twitter, that’s a lot). On "Should've Kissed You," he fesses up to missing out on his big opportunity at love by failing to kiss and tell – tell her how he feels that is. He rectifies the situation in the bridge by turning the car around, only to find his female waiting for him with puckered lips. Apologies should always come with kisses (For a totally different type of kissing song, you can also check out Brown’s “Kiss Kiss” with T-Pain).
5. "My First Kiss" by 3Oh!3 featuring Ke$ha
Maybe you’re a little less of a romantic when it comes to the whole first kiss thing. After all, it’s not always a moonlit walk on the beach, sometimes it’s a quick meeting under the bleachers or a rushed goodbye in the car. 3Oh!3 understands and they, with the help of our favorite party girl Ke$ha, made "My First Kiss," the perfect song for the less picture perfect first kiss, complete with lip-smacking sound effects and a lip-centered single cover. Muah!
4. "Just a Kiss" by Lady Antebellum
The most recently released kissing song on our list (2011) belongs to the country trio behind “Need You Now” (a song about a very different kind of physical affection). Lady Antebellum prove, once again, that their vocals and songwriting skills are on the same monumental level. While some people may want the world from you, "Just a Kiss" wants nothing more than a simple kiss, anything more would ruin the moment. If you’re a fan of the song, you should check some of the bazillion covers of it on YouTube.
3. "Last Kiss" by Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift is the master when it comes to sad, longing love songs, and this one takes her gut-wrenching song writing skills to another level. This ballad reminisces about young love and how, when you’re in it, you never see the end coming, making it all the more bittersweet when it does (especially if it's with a Jonas Brother). Definitely the saddest song on our list and the longest track Swift has ever released, "Last Kiss" is well worth the 6 minute listen. Bust out the tissues; you’re going to need them.
2. "Kiss Me" by Sixpence None the Richer
1. "Kiss" by Prince
